Plainfield Select Board Approves Eversource Poles, Signs June 25 Special Town Meeting Warrant

PLAINFIELD — June 10, 2025 — Plainfield Select Board approves Eversource pole petition and signs warrant for June 25 special town meeting. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to allow Eversource to install five new utility poles along Union Street as part of a reliability upgrade that will provide an alternative electrical feed from Savoy for roughly 300 west-side customers who currently lose service when the local substation fails; the company representative confirmed construction is targeted to begin as early as July or August. The board also signed a six-article special town meeting warrant covering a police department revolving fund bylaw, a capital planning committee, year-end free cash transfers, and a parliamentary procedure update, after residents raised concerns that draft articles were not publicly posted in advance. In other action, the board approved $21,000 in fiscal year 2025 budget transfers and switched the town's $1.1 million fiber optic asset insurance from Hanover to Acadia, saving approximately $3,000 annually while holding the deductible at $10,000. A proposal to lease two fully equipped Ford Police Interceptors for five annual payments of roughly $40,778 each, financed at 5.99 percent for a total of approximately $171,825, was referred to the Finance Committee for further review.
