Select Board · Meeting of July 14, 2026

Plainfield Select Board reorganizes for fiscal 2027 and hears an urgent Town Hall repair appeal. The board nominated a new chair, reappointed dozens of committee members and town officers in a single vote, and approved a $542 bill to town counsel KP Law along with the reappointment of patrol officers Justin Tau and Michael Regali. Ahead of a Thursday state hearing in Greenfield, a board member said Plainfield received just $81,678, or $44.65 an acre, in state payments for its 1,829.9 acres of state-owned land, calling the formula unfair to forested towns; one resident said "they should pay us money." Historical Society representative Lori Austin told the board the Town Hall has no potable water and had "deplorable" conditions during this year's 80-person Memorial Day dinner, and said $23,000 earmarked for the building's fire escape was instead redirected into a stabilization fund, with the single escape capping occupancy at 50 people since at least 2013.
