Plainfield Select Board Postpones Annual Town Meeting Four Weeks to May 30
Plainfield Select Board postpones annual town meeting to May 30 and closes the warrant with at least eight articles.
PLAINFIELD -- April 14, 2026, Plainfield Select Board postpones annual town meeting to May 30 and closes the warrant with at least eight articles. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to move the meeting from May 2, citing a compressed timeline created by an executive assistant transition, an incomplete budget, and pending legal review of a zoning bylaw amendment; a decision on whether the town election also moves will come at the April 28 meeting after KP Law weighs in. The board also unanimously created an ad hoc capital planning committee, with broadband manager Kimberly Lange agreeing to recruit members and draft a scope of work, targeting a first-fall-meeting report. Known warrant articles include a $10,000 police stabilization fund draw toward a cruiser lease-purchase down payment, a $64,470 building fund consolidation, a $90,000 grant-match top-off for fire escape and painting work on the town hall, an energy committee geothermal gap-funding request, and a zoning bylaw change. The board also declined to exercise its Chapter 61 right of first refusal on a 36-acre forestland parcel at 0 East Main Street, with one member noting simply, "What money?"
