Plainfield Select Board Allows Marijuana Delivery, Appoints Recreation Member

PLAINFIELD -- April 28, 2026, Plainfield Select Board allows marijuana delivery and selects higher first-responder insurance at April 28 meeting. The board voted unanimously to take no action to opt out of Section 25 of the state's new cannabis modernization act, which permits licensed retailers in communities such as Greenfield or Northampton to deliver marijuana products directly to Plainfield residents. A board member cited personal liberty and medical marijuana access as reasons to let the law take effect without a municipal waiver. The board also unanimously selected quote number 3-08767 for FY27 firefighter and police insurance, paying a $323 higher annual premium of $20,036 in exchange for $175,000 in loss-of-life coverage rather than $150,000. In a lengthy discussion of the town annual report, a member praised Fire Chief Rob Shearer for submitting a complete FY25 report in July while criticizing the Mohawk Trail Regional School District's submission as disproportionately long and reading "as a PR piece."
