Plainfield Select Board Orders Town Hall Kitchen Closed Over Water Violations

PLAINFIELD — October 14, 2025 — Plainfield Select Board shuts down Town Hall kitchen over unsafe water, tables police mental health grant. Board of Health member Alan Dupont told the Select Board at the October 14 meeting that the Town Hall spring-fed water system has not been tested within the required annual period, that the dishwasher cannot reach sanitizing temperatures, and that he is legally required to prohibit food preparation at the site — directly threatening the Council on Aging's upcoming Thanksgiving luncheon. Board members said they would contact building committee head Peter LaPointe to force resolution, with one member saying "we can't use Town Hall anymore until he gets it done." The board also voted unanimously to pay a $622.57 legal bill covering public records responses, pending litigation, a cannabis host community agreement for a new operation by Daniel Till on Broome Street, and other matters, and appointed Kathy Philkins and Aaron Kelly Dill to the Plainfield Cultural Council. A Department of Mental Health grant agreement for the police department was tabled because the document did not specify the upfront funding amount or whether matching funds are required.
