Plainfield Select Board Approves Tier 11 Cannabis Cultivation Host Community Agreement

PLAINFIELD — September 23, 2025 — Plainfield Select Board unanimously approved a Tier 11 cannabis host community agreement allowing up to 100,000 square feet of outdoor canopy. The board overruled town counsel's recommendation to start at the lower Tier 6 limit after the applicant, an experienced Michigan cultivator, argued that one acre of canopy would make the business economically unviable and that odor differences between one and two acres would be negligible. The agreement carries a three-year automatic termination clause, after which the town will renegotiate based on documented experience with the operation. The board also heard a proposal from resident Samuel Guy to launch a home trash and bulk item pickup service, with the Council on Aging coordinator offering to advertise it in the town newsletter, and voted to immediately remove a collapsing kiosk at the town office that a constituent described as an "extreme danger" — with a wall-mounted aluminum replacement estimated at $350.
