Plainfield Select Board Authorizes Equipment Sale, Hears School Consolidation Update

PLAINFIELD — November 11, 2025 — Plainfield Select Board hears that a December 12 state decision will determine the path of a regional school consolidation plan affecting eight towns. Representatives from the Mohawk Trail Regional School District's 2DAT working group visited the board on November 11 to outline Phase 3 of a study exploring a pre-K through 12 consolidated campus at Mohawk Trail Regional School, identifying transportation logistics, preschool structure, and potential building reuse — including the co-owned Sanderson Academy — as the top unresolved concerns. The Massachusetts School Building Authority's response to the district's Statement of Interest, expected December 12, would open a 270-day eligibility window and potentially lead to a feasibility study estimated at roughly $1 million, with approximately $300,000 in net cost split among eight towns at a projected 70 percent reimbursement rate. Community engagement sessions are scheduled at Sanderson Academy on December 3 and at Coleraine on December 4, both at 6:30 p.m. The board also voted unanimously to authorize the highway department to sell three pieces of surplus equipment, including a Chevy flat-dump truck to be listed with a reserve price.
