Plainfield Special Town Meeting Approves Fire Truck Transfer, Drops Solar Moratorium

PLAINFIELD — November 12, 2025 — Plainfield's Special Town Meeting approved two fire department articles and shelved a proposed solar moratorium on November 12. Residents voted unanimously to transfer ownership of the town's 1992 Pierce International fire truck to the Plainfield Volunteer Fire Association, which plans to sell the vehicle and apply proceeds toward 800-megahertz radio equipment the state is expected to mandate within two years. A second unanimous vote authorized a $2,268.09 hose-testing bill, paid from the FY2026 fire budget after the invoice arrived after the close of FY25. A third article proposing a solar energy moratorium was withdrawn without a vote after officials acknowledged it had not met state procedural requirements. A planning board member warned that any properly filed solar application triggers a mandatory 90-day decision window and that missing the deadline "can go through as is," calling for an emergency joint session of the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, and Board of Health before December 25.
